Red scarf girl (Theme)

The theme in the story "Red scarf girl" is about how China changes over time, and how the changes in the country affects the people. For example in the beginning of the story people try to break down shops and other buildings that express the four olds, which are old customs that need to be destroyed and made different. But I think it is too strict because no one could have alot of glamorous clothes, jewelry or other things that could be considered as a fourold. That is why victoms argue alot of about this issue. They get caught by the red guards who check people's houses making sure that they don't have any material that represent fourolds, and even if you where something thats a little tight they consider it as a fourold. Most of these ideas come from the citizens, I think that Chairman Mao just said you should go by new customs, but the people made it even more strict by thinking that tight clothes are apart of fourolds, or saying certain old words are fourolds. This law has influenced alot of chinese people and in my opinion I don't think it is a very good thing at all.

I see that this story is about China. So, Mao is strict and he is communists, but I heard that he made many stricted rules. But my story, "When my name was Keoko" is even worse. This pitiful family had to live under Japanese.
