Red scarf girl (characterization)

In the story "Red scarf girl" the main character Ji-Li Jiang has a very strict comittment to abide by the rules of Chairman Mao which affects her feelings to her friends, family, and herself. An example is when Song Po Po leaves she says that it is a good thing that she is leaving because it isn't exploiting her, if I were her I would be really sad and wouldn't event think of the four olds. And because of the four olds she becomes angry with herself, when Ji-Li couldn't be a re successor it was because her grandfather was a landlord that made an internal conflict with herself because her friends started to not like her and she becomes very depressed.

I think that your response was really well written, and summarized the part where you are reading very well. I am also reading the same book =]. I feel sad for Ji-li because, because of politics her life is changing. In China I thought they had a tradition of keeping to their families first. But I guess I am wrong. They were all dedicated to changing China, but didn't know it wasn't helping but damaging. It brought serious damage to the old folks, because of the four olds. I hope Ji-li will be able to go her way out of the mess.
